Five Irish universities will share in nearly €7m of European funding under the Erasmus+ Programme Key Action 2 Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE).  The universities are partners in projects led by universities in Finland, Spain, Germany, Poland as well as Colombia and India.

The CBHE action supports projects that aim to encourage co-operation between the EU and Partner Countries and support eligible Partner Countries in addressing challenges in the management and governance of their higher education institutions. This includes improving the quality of higher education, developing new and innovative education programmes, modernising higher education systems through reform policies as well as fostering cooperation across different regions of the world through joint initiatives.

Six of the seven selected projects will engage in what are called “Joint Projects” that are more targeted at the institutional level while the “Qualifications recognition support for Ukrainian universities” project aims to have a more systemic impact.

The Erasmus+ National Agency at the Higher Education Authority has devoted much of its energies over recent years to increasing Irish participation in this action.
