Erasmus+ Updates for International Officers – January 2025
Welcome to our latest update for International Officers. Packed with recent highlights, important deadlines, and new opportunities, we aim to keep you informed and inspired as we kick off 2025.
January IO Clinic
On 22 January, we hosted our first Erasmus+ clinic of the year, with a strong turnout. Key discussion points included:
- updates from the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science;
- guidance on 2025 application processes for KA131, KA171, and KA220;
- details on 2023 interim reports for KA171;
- ideas for boosting communications activities.

KA131 Applications
The 2025 KA131 budget has increased by 8.6%, with the European Commission allocating the HEA €19,143,039. There is no qualitative assessment for higher education institutions under KA131, as this has been taken into account at the ECHE application stage and therefore any ECHE holder is considered eligible for funding.

- Supplemental Application Form: Following the IO Clinic on 22 January, the KA131 supplemental application form for 2025 was circulated to attendees via email. The deadline for submitting these completed forms is 21 February 2025. If you require this form, or have any queries, please contact erasmus@hea.ie.
KA171 Applications
A 1.6% increase in funding from the European Commission has brought the total KA171 budget to €2,995,558. Applications received by the HEA will be independently assessed by expert evaluators.

KA220 Applications
The European Commission has allocated a total budget of €1,118,242 to the HEA for KA220 projects 2025. Applications received will be independently assessed by expert evaluators.

ESN Ireland Collaboration
Earlier this month, the HEA met with Erasmus Student Network Ireland to explore collaborative ways to engage students and amplify the promotion of the programme. Big things are coming – stay tuned!
New FAQ Section
We’ve launched a Frequently Asked Questions section on our website to address common queries from students and staff interested in undertaking an Erasmus+ mobility. It also includes handy links to resources for International Officers. Find it here.

Participate in Europe
The Erasmus+ INDIRE National Agency have shared a new video series: P.E.A.C.E. (Participation Erasmus Alumni for Civic Engagement). This bitesize series offers accessible learning modules on European politics and institutions, values, civic and political engagement, and participation – all through the lens of international mobility. It is ideal for students, young people, adult learners, and anyone interested in civic and political engagement and participation in Europe’s democratic life.

ECHE Working Group
The second meeting of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education Working Group will take place at the HEA in March. Details will be shared soon.
Next International Officers’ Meeting
The next IO meeting will be held online on Wednesday 2 April 2025. Further information to follow in due course.
